Spiritual Growth
Spiritual Growth is the path we take from being baby Christians messing in our diapers to maturity, the ability to put on and use the full armor of God. To becoming mature believers.
This is growth in the spiritual realm. But the changes don’t just happen to our spirit they happen in our lives, our day to existence.
Are they changes everyone can see? No they aren’t. Some people never show in their day to day life the passion they have for Jesus Christ.
Sad but true. Does this mean they aren’t Christians? NO! It sure doesn’t.
Be careful that you don’t judge others…
Since God has a job for each one of us, He gives us all the tools we need and even provides the cheerleaders…
Therefore, since we have so great a cloud of witnesses surrounding us … (Heb. 12:1)
Once we know the tools God has made available, the next logical step is to learn to use them. All the resources we have, including the mind of God in the Bible are available to us. We have to put ourselves into training for the work God has prepared for us.
A marathon race is very much like the Christian way of life. Part one of the race, the start, is salvation. In a blink of an eye, with a simple act of faith, we are born into the family of God (2 Cor. 5:21).
Part two of the race, the distance, is spiritual growth. It is the most challenging part. It is a work in progress, and it takes time.
2 Peter 3:18 but grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
Part three of the race, the finish line, is death.
That, too, happens in a mere instant. We will run through the finish tape and fall into the arms of Jesus Christ.
When we become Christians, we have the eagerness of puppies. We want everyone to feel as good as we do. We eagerly look for opportunities to share the Good News of Jesus Christ. We are still young enough to believe everyone wants to hear about Jesus Christ.
Then we get to the middle of the race, we start feeling the hurting, the pain, we see the distain, the heaviness, and the resistance. The race becomes much more difficult. This is where we learn to dig in with those tools. We learn to focus on the things of God, not of man.
Heb. 12:2 Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy set before him endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.
We learn to rest in the Lord.To draw strength from Him.
The passion, the challenge, the enthusiasm are not always there. We have to work at it. We start facing the difficulty of keeping and maintaining focus in our race. It is not easy, it’s a hard road, and anyone who denies that is either crazy or lying to you.
There is no zapping of knowledge, no celestial angels whispering in your ear.
There is study, study and more study and Bible class, church and fellowship.
Being sanctified means being set apart for a specific reason.
So next week I will attempt to talk about Spiritual Gifts.
